Luciné Simonian

BIOGRAPHY

Born in Erevan, Armenia, 1969. Lives and works in Paris and Barcelona

Born in a family of musicians, Luciné grew surrounded by musicians, painters and poets, allowing her to develop a strong predisposition for art from her childhood. Music was her first passion: since her first recital at the age of 14, she has performed regularly in concerts, as a soloist or in chamber groups.

Over the years, Luciné has become a multidisciplinary artist: painter, visual artist, piano concert performer and poet. She often combines music, image and texts in her projects and has carried out several multidisciplinary performances for culture festivals across Europe.

Graduated from the CNSM of Armenia and the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, Luciné is a Laureate of the Gulbenkian Foundation and the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. She also held a personal exhibition at UNESCO in Paris in 2004.

A key element of her paintings is the “sonorous color”, emphasizing the synesthetic dimension of her artworks where the stimulation of one sense causes a reaction in another one, allowing the hearing of color or the vision of sound.

“My paintings take viewers far away… to distant places where a complex alchemy tries to manage the coexistence of imaginary beings whose presence we can only guess. Painting gives me the illusion of being able to create another world, a world that I can shape with my own fingers and my senses, a world in the making whose colors and sounds I perceive”
