Helga Grollo
BIOGRAPHY
Stuttgart, 1965. Based in Valencia
A graduate in Fine Arts from Polytechnic University of Valencia, Helga Grollo investigates the interaction between plastic language and the language of words. A “pictorial metalanguage” emerges from this interaction, including signs, symbols and other visual codes that are intertwined, mixed and superimposed in her works.
In her large-format collages, Grollo uses a wide array of materials, including old fabrics, acetates, staples, labels and torn clothes. Through contrasting elements – such as voids, lines or spots – she creates tension between words, colors and textures.
Materials blend with chromatic experimentation in Grollo’s practice, resulting in a symbiosis that is both complex and harmonious. Underlying the visual games in her work, where the previously decomposed is rearranged, are hidden messages whose discovery, even subconsciously, can lead to multiple interpretations:
“I want my works to emotionally move the viewer. I want to share something original that surprises me in its realization and the viewers in its contemplation.”
